Beats by Dr. Dre [Smart Marketing]
67
The Beats by Dr. Dre line of high performance headphones, has started a craze in the US and European markets; where consumers literally save their monies to buy these seemingly overpriced accessories to add to their headphone collection. but why would customers spend their hard earned cash on these expensive toys?? Because its on the ears of almost every celebrity, that’s why.
It is only natural for fans to want to emulate the people they deem to be their “idols” and Monster is taking full advantage of this situation. They have also taken it a step further and have designed themed headphones for celebrities, where fans may purchase the headphone of a certain personality they may emulate.
“MarketingNotesJA” believes this strategy to be an effective marketing tool, that is obviously working and is reflective of perfect positioning, becoming to Americans what the Blackberry is to us Jamaicans; “a hit.”

Nice mention of the celebrity "endorsements." I'm a huge fan of college football and throughout the entire bowl season pregame shows I was shocked to see basically every player warming up in pregame wearing that damn lower-case "b" branded head phones. I has seen the commercials before but I was intrigued by the marketing phenomena that is Beats By Dre. I figured something was up with seeing all teh major college fotbaall players wearing those things and it's nice to see your blog mentioning something similar.
On that note, I think it great marketing that the company behind all this realized the headphone market really didn't have a lifestyle brand so they created one. They created a context/brand using a guy with relevant expertise and a great image, briliant stuff.
